The temples at Khajuraho, the heritage site in the state of Madhya Pradeshwere built during the Rajput Chandela Dynasty. The site was lost in the times and rediscovered, after which it appealed to tourists. Started in the year 2002, The Khajuraho dance festival promotes the heritage sites in MP along with its cultural dances and music.

The main aim of the dance festival is to encourage and promote the art of Hindu Mythology. The gods and goddesses were great lovers of music that comprises of vocal singing, instrumental music and dances like Tandav and Raas Leela.

Khajuraho Dance Festival 2018 is a display of intricate footwork of Kathak, highly stylized Bharathnatyam, soft lyrical temple dance of Odissi, the dance dramas of Kuchipudi and Manipuri, the ancient civilization and the Kathakali stage fights with elaborate masks that keeps the audiences engaged.

Along with these breath-taking dances, audience is also entertained with the melodious strains of Flute and Tanpura, syncing with the beats of the Mridangam and Tabla. The event is held at the auditoriums of the most popular temples of Khajuraho, the Chitragupta Temple and the Vishwanatha Temple.
