When 2019 begins with a Thalaivar versus Thala clash at the box office, you know it’s only going to get better. All the big stars of the Tamil cinema universe have movies releasing this year. So, here’s why fans have an exciting 2019 to look forward to.
It feels like the 90's all over again with Rajnikanth delivering back-to-back hits. Rajni has set the cash registers ringing again, right after the super hit 2.0. This time with the action-packed Petta. The quintessential Thalaivar film has everything that fans have been waiting for (since decades) and more! The punch dialogues, styling and his trademark mannerisms will take you back to the days of Baasha and Annamalai.
Thala Ajith’s Viswasam that released alongside Petta has not disappointed audiences either. The Pongal entertainer has Ajith mouthing catchphrases with the right dose of action and family drama. Looking dapper in his signature veshti-shirt, Thala does the clichéd stuff in a predictable plot but with much aplomb. What more could an Ajith fan ask for?
After a not-so-successful run at the box office lately, Chiyaan Vikram has two releases lined up this year. Both the movies present him in an all-new, uber-stylish avatar. Dhruva Natchathiram is a spy thriller directed by Gautham Menon, which has been in the works for over two years. It is set to release (hopefully) in the first half of 2019. From the looks of it, the movie does have all the ingredients of a pulsating thriller. Dramatic car chases, gun fights and an impeccably dressed star cast. We are hoping for nothing but the best from this Gautham Menon - Vikram collaboration.
The ever versatile Vikram will also be seen in the action flick Kadaram Kondan. We are intrigued by his intense, renegade look in the trailer. What adds to the suspense is the way it introduces him: an expert in "smuggling, theft, robbery and safe-breaking." The movie stars Akshara Hassan as the female lead. Like other Vikram movies, this role too seems to have shades of grey. Kadaram Kondan promises to be a riveting watch.
Suriya’s much delayed NGK is finally slated to release this April. The movie’s first look, which had Suriya styled like Che Guvera, created quite a stir among his fans. Though the makers are tight-lipped about the film’s genre, it appears to be a political drama. Directed by Selvaraghavan, the movie also stars SaiPallavi and Rakul Preet Singh as the female leads.
