Wacky Bollywood horror movies that will leave you in splits

Bollywood has given us many great horror movies like Bhoot, Ek Thi Daayan, Raaz, and more. But many times things don’t work out and what we’re left with is something that is neither scary nor intimidating and just an absolute blunder of sorts. So let’s take a look at some of the worst and somewhat hilarious horror movies.

1. Phoonk 2 (2010)

If you’ve watched the first Phoonk (2008) movie, you know they shouldn’t have taken out their ventilators for the second “Phoonk”, but they still did and what we get is a hotchpotch of horrifyingly confusing elements from this movie trying to scare us by teaming up with the ghosts of the former movie.

2. 1920 London: Fear Strikes Again (2016)

The movie did manage to strike fear in our minds, the fear of watching the 1920 franchise! This horror comedy movie manages to touch upon almost every horror movie cliche in existence. Revenge, backstabbing, black magic, amulets that possess dark energy, and mirrors that can transport you to different dimensions, these are all the cliches included in nearly 2 hours runtime. Maybe they should use that inter-dimensional mirror to release the movie in those other dimensions.

3. Alone (2015)

There are twists waiting for you at every turn of the movie. The convoluted story of the twins Anjana and Sanjana is very difficult to understand. Alone’s plot is very hard to differentiate from the Hollywood movie Jessabelle (2014). Oh and did we mention, there are a ton of steamy scenes in this movie!

4. Creature 3D (2014)

The 3Dness of Creature 3D’s creature will take you back to your childhood days when you played the House of the Dead video games. As you can imagine, the creature is obviously cursed to roam the Earth for eternity and can only be killed if... well, we won’t spoil the movie for you, go watch it yourself, just like we did!

5. Ghost (2012)

The movie is riddled with the memories of the past that the title character cannot remember. What a surprise! Obviously, the ghost has something to do with the past of the character and to stop the ghost, he must make peace with his past which he cannot remember. The corners are cut and the game is rigged, what will they do?

6. Hisss (2010)

Hisss had a lot of things going for it but when it was released, it turned out to be just another overly sexual misrepresentation of what is considered horror. With a snake who can shapeshift into humans is the protagonist, Hisss is one of the more hilarious horror movies out there.

7. Papi Gudia (1996)

The Indian remake of the Hollywood classic Child’s Play (1988) is easily one of the best horror comedy movies of Bollywood. The amount of effort put into creating this film is nominal and it shows. They could’ve at least tried and made the ‘gudia’ more menacing and scary but instead it looks as if they bought it from the first toy vendor they came across at a bargain.

8. Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani (2002)

Another “funny” horror movie that recruits the help of a Nagin-based plot to kill off its large ensemble dream cast. The movie excels at under-utilising its star-studded cast and instead resorts to cheap scares. The CGI, or rather the lack of it, can be ignored for once considering it came out 18 years ago but the script can be unforgivably bad at most of the times.

9. Hawa (2003)

A film that manages to take the talented Tabu and make it just another funny ghost movie that goes down without a trace in the cinematic history is a film you needn’t bother with. The film takes inspiration from other Hollywood movies of the time quite liberally.

10. Bandh Darwaza (1990)

It is funny to see what the horror movie landscape looked like during the early 90s in Bollywood. Bandh Darwaza will take you back in time when Dracula was still considered a benchmark in horror and the village chief could still look the king of the vampires in the eye and tell him to just pop off.
