Hosted by Qatar, the 2019 Asian Athletics Championship saw the finest athletes go head to head to compete for glory. The Indian contingent had some amazing success, bringing home 17 medals across the 3 days of the event. Let’s recap on their victories here :
In the 1500m sprint, India faced difficulty against the Bahraini contingent. But, P.U. Chitra held her nerve and burst forth to claim gold for her homeland. A stellar performance has propelled her into the limelight and we are proud of her efforts.
Inspired by his peer, Ajay Kumar Saroj bagged the silver in the Men’s 1500m sprint in a photo finish. Abrahim Rotich took the gold, even if the margin was slim which meant Ajay was smiling at the finish line!
In the 4x400m relay, the Indian contingent took home yet another silver medal, with their team work ensuring they finished with a time of 3:32.21s, merely eleven-thousands of a second behind Bahrain.
A test of endurance, the Women’s 10,000m race saw Sanjivani Jadhav take 3rd place with a personal best time of 32:44.96 and was rewarded with the bronze medal for her efforts.
India took 4th place overall at the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships, with 3 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze medals accumulated by the contingent from the homeland.
