Unlocking your fitness quotient during the lockdown!

The lockdown has left all of us confined to our homes, but, minus any physical workout or social interaction. While this is essential to flatten the curve, sadly it has increased our own curves. 

Now is the time to make fitness your goal for these lockdown days. Here are a few tips on how you can stay fit and remain productive.

1. Try to eat healthy

We all get tempted by the pictures of delicious food our friends keep posting on social media. But don’t let that sway you from your diet plan. While it is okay to indulge in a sinful meal on occasion, let’s not make it a habit. It’s also important to be careful about our calorie intake. Try to include loads of fresh veggies and whole grains in your diet.

2. Get adequate rest

A good night’s sleep of seven-eight hours is the best way for your body to recharge and build immunity. Sleep can also enhance mental wellness and regulate energy metabolism. With no long commutes to cut into your precious snooze time, now is the time to make most of that extra hour of sleep!

3. Stay hydrated and consume foods that boost your immunity

Limit your intake of caffeinated drinks and keep yourself hydrated. Be sure to include vegetables and fruits rich in beta carotene, zinc and other essential vitamins. Certain foods like tomato, capsicum and green leafy vegetables like spinach work wonders to help your body fight body against infections.

4. De-stress yourself

Currently, the one thing we have in abundance is time. So why not pick up a new hobby like painting or maybe learn a musical instrument? Or just pick up the phone and connect with a loved one. Or plan a game night with your friends. Another surefire way to de-stress yourself during this time is by practicing meditation.

5. Make the time to squeeze in some exercise

A perfect diet is no good if you lead a sedentary lifestyle. A suitable workout is important to stay fit, both physically and mentally.  Even some light exercises for 30-40 minutes will go a long way in releasing the toxins from your body and improve metabolism. A good workout causes your body to release endorphins, which make you feel better and boost immunity.
