The 2020 edition of the U19 World Cup was brimming with potential. Though they were unsuccessful in bringing the trophy home, they set everyone’s hopes up for the future Indian cricket team.

The India U19 cricket team presented a tough fight for the trophy against Bangladesh in the finals. But the latter was fired up from the very first ball of the innings and the Indian team crumbled under the pressure.

Even though it was not a win for India in the tournament, some of the players shone bright like a gem throughout the tournament. Let us look at some of the most promising and talented players from India Under 19 Squad.

Atharva Ankolekar

The Mumbai-born all-rounder, Atharva Ankolekar, grabbed everyone’s attention and interest with his performance in the ICC Under-19 World Cup. With no luck in playing the initial two matches, he played in the third match against New Zealand and took three wickets for 28 runs. One of the best players in the India U19 cricket team, Atharva Ankolekar with his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal, helped his team play the semifinals. He set off a winning streak after the World Cup, winning five for 28 against Bangladesh, helping India win the U-19 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Considered as one of the noteworthy players in India Under 19 Squad, Atharva Ankolekar has taken 15 wickets at an average of 11.80 in the next seven matches.

Kartik Tyagi

One of the best players in the India U19 cricket team, Kartik Tyagi played an important role in the team’s unshakeable run to the final of the ICC U-19 World Cup 2020 in South Africa. He is a hostile fast bowler with good knowledge of the sport who brought his brilliance and talent to the team. Kartik Tyagi amazed everyone with his stellar performance in the quarter-final against Australia by hauling four wickets. A part of the India Under 19 squad in the World Cup, he has eleven wickets under his belt in the tournament. Priyam Garg

One of the most talented players in the India Under 19 Squad, Priyam Garg was named captain for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The upcoming star from Uttar Pradesh showcased an outstanding game by scoring a century against Goa in his Ranji Trophy debut. Priyam Garg was a part of the Indian team in the 2019-2020 Duleep Trophy and gathered a total of 814 runs at an average of 67.83 in the 11 first-class cricket matches. One of the best players in the India U19 cricket team, Priyam Garg made his IPL debut in 2020 as a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad and is playing for the same in IPL 2021.

Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi had an exciting World Cup tournament for India and ended on a winning streak as the leading wicket-taker and bowler in the finals against Bangladesh. The googly that he plays perfectly was troublesome to the batsmen throughout the tournament and made him the talk of the town. One of the most promising players in the India Under 19 Squad, Ravi Bishnoi, in the match against New Zealand, ran through the middle order and took four wickets, making India win. Sushant Mishra

Yashasvi Jaiswal

One of the most powerful players in the India U19 cricket team, Yashasvi Jaiswal finished the World Cup tournament as the leading run-scorer and also bagged the Man Of The Man Award. He scored a total of 400 runs in six games with a 133.33 average. One of the best players in the India Under 19 Squad, he has four fifties and a hundred under his belt in six World Cup innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal became the youngest cricket player in the world to score a List A double century. The left-handed batsman is currently playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021. If Yahsasvi Jaiswal continues to show the same calibre and gameplay, he will surely secure a spot as an opening batsman alongside Rohit Sharma for the Indian cricket team.
