UEFA Champions League quarter-finals: who plays who

Four thrilling matches await football fans in the first leg of quarter-finals (QFs) of the UEFA Champions League. Bayern Munich face Sevilla, Barcelona play AS Roma, Real Madrid take on Juventus and Liverpool hosts Manchester City. The QFs will be held on April 3 and 4, 2018. A lowdown of the games and what to expect!

1. Sevilla Vs Bayern Munich

Sevilla, Europa league’s most successful club, and German giants Bayern Munich have never faced each other in a UEFA game. Sevilla has reached the QF’s of the Champions League for the first time in 60 years. They remained unbeaten in their last 11 home games against German clubs. Sevilla also overcame the fancied Manchester United in Round 16. Bayern has had a relatively easy run in the tournament so far. This is their seventh consecutive QF appearance. However, the German team has lost their last five away games to Spanish teams. It is bound to play on their minds when they take on Sevilla. 2. Juventus Vs Real Madrid

The finalists of last season’s Champions League meet in Turin for the first leg. Italy’s most successful club remain unbeaten in their last seven home matches against Madrid. This is the Italian team’s 18th QF appearance. They have their task cut-out against the 12-time champions Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored in all his five appearances against Juventus which will worry the Italian side. Real Madrid has a slight upper hand having won a game, more head-to-head. Statistically, Madrid has struggled in Italy which will no doubt bolster the confidence of their opponents. Madrid’s playmakers will have to be at their beguiling best to overcome the hardy Italian side.

3. Liverpool Vs Manchester City

Liverpool and Manchester City have known each other from the English Premier League but this is their first UEFA meeting. Manchester City travels to Anfield, Liverpool, for the first leg. At home, Liverpool is a formidable side and they beat Manchester City at Anfield in January. They will look to Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to take them all the way. Manchester City is having a dream run this season having won all but four of their Premier League games. Sergio Agüero has 15 goals from as many games in 2018 while Raheem Sterling has 15 Premier League goals. Manchester City also won their first trophy of the English season with a 3-0 victory against Arsenal. This promises to be an exciting game as both teams know each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

4. Barcelona Vs Roma

The Spanish league leaders welcome the Italian side for the first leg. Barcelona remains unbeaten in the last 12 games at home against the Italians. With Lionel Messi in the form that he is in, Barcelona will be confident of their chances. They have reached the UEFA Champions League QFs for the 11th time in a row. Roma, meanwhile, has lost both their previous UEFA Champions League QFs. Currently, the Italian team are on a roll having won their last four games. The Italian club has a respectable record against Barcelona, losing only one of their four fixtures. The last time Roma travelled to the Camp Nou, they were humiliated 6-1.
