Six big stars who debuted in Marathi cinema

There’s no denying that Marathi cinema is gaining wide popularity in India, and overseas too. Mainly because of varied and interesting content that appeals to everyone. Movies such as Natarang, Lai Bhari, Sairat, Timepass and Duniyadari are testimony to this fact. 
It, therefore, doesn’t come as a surprise to see a rise in established actors starring in Marathi movies. Let us take a look at some actors who have debuted in Marathi cinema.
 

1. Urmila Matondkar in Ajoba (2014)

Ajoba is a farmland leopard who is the subject of a research project. Based on true events, this movie covers Ajoba’s 120-km journey from Malshej Ghat to Mumbai. Urmila Matondkar played the role of Vidya Athreya, the researcher who had collared Ajoba with a GPS tracker.

2. Ravi Kishan in Madhyamvarg (2014)

This movie portrays the fight between the middle-class and the evils of society. The story revolves around a policeman, a journalist and his family. Ravi Kishan played the journalist, marking his debut in Marathi cinema.

3. Hrithik Roshan in Hrudayantar (2017)

This is a heartwarming story of a family — parents and their two daughters. The couple is going through a marital crisis. However, when their younger daughter is diagnosed with leukemia, they look at their lives differently. Hrithik Roshan has made a cameo appearance as himself in this emotional drama.

4. Sunny Leone in Boyz (2017)

Kabir has no clue about his father’s whereabouts and his mother keeps avoiding his persistent questions. He is then sent to a boarding school where he meets two mischievous boys, and the school starts witnessing changes. Sunny Leone has performed an item number in this movie on the famous Marathi song ‘Kutha Kutha Jayacha Honeymoonla’.

5. Madhuri Dixit in Bucket List (2018)

Madhura Sane is a middle-aged woman who gets a heart transplant from a 20-year-old girl. Madhura then decides to fulfil the unfinished wishes of her donor in this light-hearted movie. Madhuri Dixit won over her audience with her natural acting in her debut Marathi movie.

6. Amitabh Bachchan in AB aani CD (upcoming)

A tale of two childhood friends, this movie marks Amitabh Bachchan’s debut in Marathi cinema. It portrays how the life of Chandrakant Deshpande (CD) changes when people learn that Amitabh Bachchan (AB) is his childhood friend.
