April 14, 2019. The countdown is on for Games of Thrones (GOT) fans. As the wait for Season Eight finally comes to an end, there’s loads of speculation, predictions and anticipation. Will the final season leave fans disappointed? Or will it end as expected? Here are some of the whackiest fan predictions doing the rounds.
Season Eight is expected to reinforce the strong Stark and Baratheon connection. This time, through none other than Sansa and Gendry! It might be an unlikely pairing, but fans say this explains his surprising reappearance in Season Seven. They point to Ned Stark’s prediction in Season One that Sansa would end up with "someone strong, and wise, and brave." Gendry definitely has all these qualities and the noble lineage of being a Baratheon. As a blacksmith, he could play a valuable role in the final season.
Another point being debated on fan forums is whether there could be a new Targaryen dynasty soon. Daenerys has repeatedly said that the dragons are the only children she will ever have. But is that really so? Fans hope not and are speculating that Jon and Daenerys could have a child.
Plenty of theories are doing the rounds on how Arya will use her Faceless assassin skills to kill some bad guys. And it’s no secret that Cersei features prominently on her list of targets. It’s no surprise then that fans say Arya could kill Cersei using Jaime’s face. How is that possible given that Cersei and Jaime went their separate ways in Season Seven? Many scenarios have been discussed but one stands out: Arya could go to Cersei as Jaime and pretend to swear loyalty to her again.
There’s (obviously) a lot of buzz around the Targaryens on fan forums. One of the hottest topics of discussion is who will eventually be The Prince That Was Promised. This figure is believed to be a reincarnation of the legendary warrior Azor Ahai and will fight the White Walkers. Could Samwell Tarly be the Prince That Was Promised? Seems farfetched, but not according to some fans. One theory suggests that Sam could be Aegon, the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and his first wife Elia Martell. Fans are convinced that Varys got this child fostered by Randyll Tarly, who was faithful to the Targaryens. He was meant to protect Aegon as his first son. When Aegon came of age, he would claim his rightful place on the Iron Throne. Randyll's loyalty would have then been rewarded and his first born son Dickon would be his heir.
