Sakshi Tanwar is the most influential bahu of Indian television. Her career, spanning a little over two decades, has seen her portraying a variety of roles. She’s played a traditional bahu in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, and a modern bahu in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and a variety of other roles in between. Despite having risen to fame by starring in typical melodramatic soaps, she was never one to get typecasted. Currently, she’s taken a break from television and is seen playing the lead in a web series - Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat. Sakshi Tanwar started her television journey by hosting this song based show that aired on DD in 1998. The show featured songs from new and old movies alike and the host would then share interesting bits of trivia related to the songs, their lyrics, or their movies.
This Punjabi serial marked the acting debut of Sakshi on television. The show aired on Zee TV Punjabi from 1998 - 1999.
This is the show which skyrocketed Sakshi Tanwar’s to fame and made her a household name. To this day she’s recognized as Parvati, the lead of the show. The show that started airing in 2000, was one of the first shows that brought about the advent of soap operas to the Indian television. The show resonated with its audience so well that it stayed on air for 8 years until 2008. Sakshi Tanwar’s role in the show was that of an ideal bahu, who, if she has to, would even go against her loved ones to do what’s morally right. The show spanned over three generations and saw Sakshi playing a bahu, saas, and even a grandmother! The show also led to friendship between the creator of the serial, Ekta Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar. This friendship would see them reunite for producing a number of hit shows over the years.
After Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki went off the air in 2008, Sakshi kept appearing in a variety of roles in shows like Balika Vadhu, Kahaani Hamaaray Mahaabhaarat Ki, co-hosted the second season of Crime Patrol along with Anup Soni, acted in a bunch of movies as a supporting character. But her second breakout role came in the form of Priya Sharma in the show Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. This would also see her reuniting with Ekta Kapoor who created and produced the show. Ram Kapoor starred as the male lead of show. Though this show only lasted for 3 years, the show became an instant hit. The fans of the show loved the on-screen chemistry of the lead pair and it was one of the most popular shows on air during 2011-2014. According to The Times of India, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was the seventh most watched show in India in 2011.
24: Season 2 was the first show that starred Sakshi Tanwar in a role that was not of a bahu. She portrayed the character of Shibani Malik, the Chief of Anti Terrorism Unit. Her fans loved her character and appreciated her departure from her previous avatar.
Though a little late in her career, Sakshi’s acting caliber was finally recognized when she was cast as the wife of Aamir Khan’s character in the movie Dangal. Sakshi’s acting was widely lauded.
Sakshi Tanwar’s casting in this show saw her going back to her roots. Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat is a web series streaming on the AltBalaji platform.
