Post-apocalyptic movies and shows to watch because why not?!

In the past few years, post apocalyptic movies and shows have branched off from the thriller genre and created a niche of their own. These post apocalyptic movies and post apocalyptic TV shows have tried to paint a grim picture of a world that has been devastated by either a man-made or a natural disaster. While these have always been based on a farfetched imagination of writers, given the current state of the world, they feel almost as real as Jason Bourne or Mission Impossible action movies. So, let’s take a look at some of the best post apocalyptic movies and post apocalyptic TV series we have come across in recent years.

1. Snowpiercer

One of the best post apocalyptic movies that also got revived as a post apocalyptic TV series, Snowpiercer is a gripping tale of the last survivors of the human race who are living days onboard Snowpiercer, a 1001-car-long train that keeps on circling the globe in perpetuity in order to escape from the freeze in a world suffering from a man-made ice age. However, even the apocalypse couldn’t force the hands of humanity to work together who have somehow still managed to divide themselves in classes based on wealth. Watch the movie before you decide to delve deeper into the frozen world of Snowpiercer.

2. The Walking Dead

If there were a show that would be an exaggerated account of what the world is going through right now, it would be The Walking Dead. Being one of the best post TV apocalyptic shows out there, it has been a fan favourite for a long time now. It follows a group of survivors trying to survive after a plague has turned most of the people into zombies. However, they soon discover as the series progresses that zombies aren’t the only danger they need to look out for!

8. I Am Legend

Based on the novel of the same name, I Am Legend, is the third adaptation of it. The first two post apocalyptic movies based on this novel are The Last Man On Earth and The Omega Man. It tells the story of the last surviving man in New York after the breakout of a virus. He is somehow immune to the virus and tries to cure it by injecting his immune blood into the carriers (zombies) he captures. An interesting piece of trivia not many know about is that this Will Smith starrer got two different endings. In the first one, Will Smith gave up his life to save that of a woman and her child that came looking for him after hearing his daily radio transmissions. In the alternate ending, the zombies somehow respond positively to his blood and are able to regain control of their humanity, thus, not killing him. All the three post apocalyptic movies were hits in their respective eras.

9. A Quiet Place

Out of all the post apocalyptic movies to come out recently, A Quiet Place managed to woo the audience with its apocalypse that is, simply put, quite unique. The “apocalypse” here is a breed of monsters that hunt through their auditory receptors, in other words, they can’t see or smell but only hear. The movie revolves around the Abbott family who have lost a child to these monsters and learned to survive in this new world overtaken by silence. The movie stars Emily Blunt and John Krasinski in titular roles. Watch this movie to satisfy your  post apocalyptic movies fantasy.

10. WALL.E

After all the post apocalyptic movies and post apocalyptic TV series with either horror or thriller at its heart to forward narrative, let’s take a look at a post apocalyptic movie that has a much more real and relatable problem as its apocalypse; consumerism and waste! WALL.E tells the story of humans who are forced to leave earth to live on-board a spaceship after the waste they’ve been producing for decades renders the soil too infertile to grow any crops. Hope knocks at the door of these humans 700 years after leaving the earth when one of their scouting bots discover a newly grown plant on earth.
