The new teen sensation, Shafali Verma is making India proud with her mind-blowing performance on the cricket field. From the time of her debut, she has been breaking records left, right and centre. Here’s all you need to know about this viral star player. 

1. Debuting at 15.

Shafali Verma, the right-handed Indian batswoman was born on January 28, 2004. The Rohtak teen joined the Women’s T20 International squad against South Africa on September 24, 2019. She is the youngest cricketer to represent the nation on an international ground.

2. Breaking the Master Blaster’s 30-year-old record.

Her 73 runs off just 49 balls swiftly drove her team to the magnificent total of 185/4 in India’s first T20 against West Indies in St. Lucia. The 15-year-old batswoman became the youngest cricketer to score a maiden half-century in International cricket, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record against Pakistan.

3. Yet another feather in her cap.

This young prodigy not only smashed Sachin’s record but also broke Rohit Sharma’s record to become the youngest Indian to score a T20I fifty. She is also the 2nd youngest woman to score a fifty after Kavisha K Egodage, UAE’s right-handed batswoman. While Shafali was 15 years 285 days old, K Egodage was 15 years 267 days when she set the record. Verma and Smriti Mandhana weaved a record partnership of 143-runs.

4. The journey continues...

With the Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled for February-March next year, there is no doubt that Verma will be the most sought-after player with her present form. The Verma-Mandhana (Smriti Mandhana) opening partnership will be India’s wager in the 2020 Women’s T20 WC.
