In a time when the whole economy is working from home, TV and movie industries have come to a complete standstill. Due to safety norms put into place during the lockdown, shootings, promotional events, and interviews have been cancelled and theatres have been closed due to which production of upcoming movies and releases of new movies have been postponed. Let’s take a look at which movie releases slated for the months of March and April have been postponed.
Angrezi Medium, starring Irrfan Khan, Radhika Madan, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, remained in theatres just for a day before the lockdown was announced. The film’s earnings took a massive hit due to this and hence, it was released online.
Touted to be the biggest release of the first quarter of 2020, Sooryavanshi, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif and cameos by Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, was slated to release on 24th March. This Rohit Shetty directorial has been pushed back to an unconfirmed date. The change in the release of a film of this magnitude will have an impact on the release and earnings of other movies as well.
The third collaboration of Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’s release has been postponed yet again albeit this time due to the lockdown. It is directed by Dibakar Banerjee and produced by Yash Raj Productions.
Haathi Mere Saathi, starring Rana Daggubati, which was earlier set to release on 2nd April, has now been postponed to an unconfirmed date. The movie is called Aranya in Telugu and Kaadan in Tamil.
The biopic of Kapil Dev starring Ranveer Singh, chronicles the tale of team India winning Cricket World Cup in 1983. The film’s trailer was supposed to launch on 11th March and the movie was slated for an April 10 release but both of these have been indefinitely delayed.
Radhe, a Salman Khan starrer, was slated for an Eid release but now it has been pushed off to an unconfirmed date. Earlier it was slated for 22nd May release. The film takes place in Azerbaijan but the team decided to stay safe and postponed the shooting schedule. Looks like after a long time we could be looking at an Eid without the release of a Bhai movie.
Disney’s live-action adaptation of its animated movie Mulan, has been pushed off to a July release. Earlier it was supposed to pull the crowds to the theatres starting 27th of March.
Scarlett Johansson’s long-awaited foray into the solo superhero movie territory, Black Widow’s release has been postponed from 30th of April to 6th of November. Initially, 6th of November was reserved for The Eternals.
The ninth installment of the hit F&F franchise was slated for an Eid release but has now been pushed off to 2nd of April 2021. The film pits John Cena against our beloved Dom and the crew.
The horror movie starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski was slated for a March release but now has been postponed indefinitely. It is the second installment of the hit horror franchise kicked off with A Quiet Place (2018).
