Bollywood fanatics rejoice!
2019 and 2020 may have officially become the year when the most number of sequels to super-hit Bollywood flicks will be released! So read on to find out which ones are on their way to make it big at the box office.
1. Hera Pheri 3
When it comes to the Hera Pheri series, every Bollywood lover knows that the name itself is enough to tickle their funny bone.
The movie is directed by Neeraj Vora, with Firoz A. Nadiadwala as the producer, forming part of the crew.
2. Housefull 4
Fans are already excited to see the kind of confusion and chaos which will ensue in the upcoming comedy film directed by the celebrated writer-turned-director Farhad Samji.
The fourth installment in the Housefull franchise stars Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Kriti Sanon, Kriti Kharbanda, Pooja Hegde and Rana Daggubati and is slated to release this year.
3. Angrezi Medium
We can’t contain our excitement too! After taking a break from Indian cinema for almost a year, Irrfan Khan is finally back in front of the camera to star in the sequel to his hit movie Hindi Medium.
Irrfan Khan’s character in Hindi Medium was Raj Batra, a Delhi based businessman with a saari showroom. Now, in Angrezi Medium he plays Champakji from Udaipur who is in the mithai business.
Directed by Homi Adajania, the film has already started shooting in Udaipur. Angrezi Medium also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Radhika Madan in lead roles.
4. 3 Idiots Part 2
We can’t help but yell ‘Aal izz well’!
Director Rajkumar Hirani with his writer-collaborator Abhijat Joshi has started working on the script of the sequel to 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and R Madhavan.
However, since actual work on the movie will only commence after Hirani is done shooting Munna Bhai 3 with Sanjay Dutt, the film is rumoured to go on floors in 2020.
5. Love Aaj Kal 2
While eager fans can’t wait to see the screen fire up with Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan’s sizzling chemistry, actor Randeep Hooda, who has previously picked intense roles in mostly all of his movies, will now be seen as a love guru to Kartik Aaryan in the next Imtiaz Ali film (which is tentatively called Love Aaj Kal 2).
The shoot for the romantic drama film is currently underway in the country’s capital, New Delhi and is expected to release next year.
6. Bunty Aur Babli Again
Yes, you read that right!
Director Shaad Ali (who also directed the original film Bunty Aur Babli) is bringing the duo of con artists Rakesh Trivedi (Abhishek Bachchan) and Vimmi Saluja (Rani Mukherjee) to the screens yet again.
The sequel to the 2005 blockbuster comedy heist has finally been shown the green signal by production house Yash Raj Studios and will begin its shooting in June in Mumbai.
7. Dabangg 3
The much-awaited third installment in Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg’ franchise is being helmed by Prabhu Deva who has also worked with him in the 2009 blockbuster Wanted.
Featuring Salman as the Robinhood cop, Chulbul Pandey and Sonakshi Sinha as his wife Rajjo, the movie is to have two tracks related to Salman Khan’s present and past running parallelly. Dimple Kapadia will also be back as Chulbul Pandey’s mother, making her return to the series in the past.
With the film gearing up for its release in December 2019, Bhai’s fans all over the country couldn’t be more excited!
8. Sadak 2
The upcoming sequel to the hit 1991 love-story featuring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt is all set to hit the floors in 2019. Along with the original cast, the movie will also star Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the lead.
Sadak 2 will mark the first-ever collaboration of Alia Bhatt with her father Mahesh Bhatt and her sister Pooja Bhatt. Fans already have high expectations from this Bollywood flick which is slated for a release in 2020.
The sequel will also incorporate a reprise version of the hit song ‘Tumhe Apna Banane Ki Kasam’.
9. Go Goa Gone 2
A comedy, a horror-thriller and an adventure-action movie rolled into one, Raj and D.K’s Go Goa Gone was a mix of all the right genres for the Indian audience. The 2013 film featured Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Kemmu, Vir Das and Anand Tiwari.
Go Goa Gone 2 is expected to be just as fun as the original if not more, and the creators of the film are also planning to have beings from another planet.
With the second installment going on floors in January next year, we are definitely looking forward to this one!
10. Krrish 4
Hrithik Roshan fans can finally throw their hands up in joy as the fourth installment of the ‘Krrish’ franchise is finally in the pipeline.
Rakesh Roshan recently announced that he is scripting down a storyline for the film and taking the help of his grandsons Hrehaan (10) and Hridhaan (8) to keep him updated on the happenings in the superhero world.
Rumour has it that in this version, Krrish might get a sidekick and the super-villain Kaal, played by Vivek Oberoi, will make a comeback.
