A Glimpse into India's first NBA showdown

India witnessed a truly historic event as the National Basketball Association (NBA) launched its pre-season game on Oct 4th  & 5th  in Mumbai. Here’s all you need to know about NBA India Games 2019.

1. NBA debut In India

Two pre-season games were played in India on 4th and 5th October between Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings. In the square-off between the two teams, the Pacers eked out a narrow win.

2. International Buzz

The event gained a worldwide attention; NBA players and fans were looking forward to this once in a lifetime experience since the announcement was made in Dec, 2018.


At the event ‘Howdy Modi’, U.S President Trump added to the NBA buzz by making a quip at Prime Minister Modi. He said “Am I invited Mr. Prime Minister? I may come, be careful, I may come.”

3.NBA in my backyard

Campaign ‘NBA in my backyard’ was launched before the event. Popular Hip-Hop artists such as Shah Rule, Madurai Souljour, Brodhav V and Frennzy representing different parts of India, composed five grand soundtracks for the campaign.

4.Walls in the town rejoice

The essence of NBA culture was brought alive in India through the famous graffiti artists such as NME, Minzo, Mooz and Dexter.


They painted the walls of Mumbai in the famous colors of NBA to celebrate the historic event covering over 4,000 sqft of walls, including a basketball floor.

5.Floating Basketball Ground

India gifted the most awaited and first-ever floating basketball court to the fans of the game.

 
It stretches over 200 meters in the Arabian Sea near the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.  Famous personalities along with the Sacramento Kings’  Mascot, Slamson the Lion joined the court launch.

6. Fans who joined the fanfare

Indian fans, partners, media and celebrities got an opportunity to witness one of the major sports in the world, right here in Mumbai.

Famous personalities like Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, Ranvijay Singh, Sonam Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Angad Bedi, Neha Dhupia, and Shibani Dandekar were spotted enjoying the match.
