Four superhit performances that made actress Jyothika rise to stardom

Bubbly, cute and charming – is what comes to your mind when you think of actress Jyothika. But if you have seen some of her best performances, you will know she is much more than that.
Jyothika made her acting debut in Priyadarshan’s Hindi movie Doli Saja ke Rakhna in 1998. Unfortunately, the movie bombed at boxed office and her performance went unnoticed. Jyothika then proceeded to do movies in South India. And the rest, as they say, is history.
With two releases this year – Jackpot and Raatchasi – there’s no stopping Jyothika. Let’s look at four of her best performances that have made her one of the most appreciated actresses.

1. Chandramukhi (2005)

Starring with superstar Rajinikanth and giving her best performance, Jyothika achieved both in this movie. Playing the role of Ganga, a girl with a personality disorder, Jyothika stole the show in Chandramukhi. And her expressive eyes made the character seem convincing yet scary! Jyothika’s performance won her the Tamil Nadu state award for best actress.

2. Vetaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu (2006)

Jyothika as a modern mother won many hearts in this Kamal-Haasan starrer.  Recently separated from her husband, Jyothika falls in love with widowed police officer Kamal Haasan. Both actors deliver a strong performance in this thriller.

3. Mozhi (2007)

Jyothika as a deaf and dumb girl in this comedy, musical, romantic movie, was well appreciated by everyone. She is a headstrong, independent girl whom the musician hero falls in love with. He eventually makes her believe that there’s more to life than she previously thought.

4. Naachiyaar (2018)

Adding to the myriad roles she has performed, Jyothika plays a tough-as-nails cop in this crime thriller. On the one hand she’s cussing and beating up criminals, and on the other she’s playing a soft-hearted family woman. Jyothika manages to deliver in both the roles.
