Farout cousins: Farhan and Farah, the all-rounders

When we talk about Farhan Akhtar and Farah Khan, there is no need for any introduction. They both are super talented, and their work speak volumes for them. But, many people don't know they are actually cousins, as the headline suggests. So, let's know more about how their families are related and how they created names for themselves in Bollywood here. 

1. Film in Blood

Farhan Akhtar is the son of the famous writer, lyricist Javed Akhtar and screenwriter Honey Irani. And, Farah Khan is the daughter of Kamran Khan and Menaka Irani, sister of Honey Irani and Daisy Irani. So, there is no doubt that film flows in their blood.

2. The beginning of choreography journey

Today Farah Khan is one of the best choreographers in the industry. But, she had never wanted to be one until the day she saw Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Suddenly, she became so mad about dancing that she learned dancing on her own and formed a dance group. In 1992, when the renowned choreographer Saroj Khan walked out of Mansoor Khan’s film 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar', she stepped in and the rest in history.

3. Dil Kya Chahta Hai?

While doing a writing exercise given by the ad-man Adi Pocha at Script Shop, Farhan got the idea of his first film 'Dil Chahta Hai'. The characters of this film were so strong that he decided to be a director and bring this story on the silver screen, thus beginning his journey in Bollywood. The movie was screened at many international film festivals, and it received a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 2002.

4. Bollywood's most sought-after choreographer

In the 1990s and 2000s, every filmmaker wanted Farah to choreograph their song and add trademark steps in it. She got her first Filmfare Award for Best Choreography for the song "Dhol Bajne Laga" in Virasat. Later, she went on to win multiple awards for her outstanding work in songs such as Chaiyya Chaiyya, Ek Pal Ka Jeena, Woh Ladki Hai Kahan, Idhar Chala Main Udhar Chala, and Sheila Ki Jawani.

5. Dabbling into singing and acting

After directing Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya and Don, Farhan Akhtar finally decided to come in front of the camera as a rockstar in the movie 'Rock On!'. He surprised everyone with his fine acting and singing in the movie and won multiple awards, including the prestigious Filmfare accolade for the Best Male Debut. He has been honoured with the Filmfare Best Actor award for portraying the Flying Sikh, Milkha Singh, in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'.

6. Rocking as a director and TV Personality

Farah Khan put on her director's hat with the super hit movie 'Main Hoon Na'. The movie earned her the rare reputation of becoming the second female director to be nominated for the Filmfare Best Director Award at that time. Her second movie as a director was 'Om Shanti Om' which starred Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. Her last movie was the multiple-starrer 'Happy New Year' which grossed over 300 crores. She has hosted many shows and rightfully owned the judge's chair in many dancing reality shows.

7. A hero off-screen

Farhan Akhtar has remained very vocal on various critical social issues. He started the social campaign Men Against Rape and Discrimination (MARD) to create awareness about rape and discrimination of women
