Codenames, conspiracies and love for country - Here's why you need to watch these fantastic spy films

Spy films have become the latest trend in Bollywood recently and there are a lot of directors and producers who have been making films covering various topics in espionage. These films generate curiosity in the minds of the audience and work best for the film-makers. It comprises of various codenames and certain conspiracy theories that they use to keep the audience engaged. Here are a few Bollywood films that had a bang-on effect on all of us and worked best at the box office too.

1. Romeo Akbar Walter

The film Romeo Akbar Walter is based on the story of the Indo-Pakistani war that took place in 1973. This film is believed to be a hard-hitting thriller film that will throw light on a lot of issues faced by the people during this phase. The film is directed by Robby Grewal and has John Abraham, Mouni Roy, and Jackie Shroff in the lead roles.

2. Raazi

Raazi is a spy-thriller based in Kashmir, India. The film is inspired by Harinder Sikka's 2008 novel ’Calling Sehmat’ that portrays the story of a female who gets married to a Pakistani military official after her father who is a RAW detective requests her to do so. Alia Bhatt who plays the lead here marries Vicky Kaushal and strategically finds a way to communicate and give inside information to the Indian army right ahead of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War.

3. Baby

Baby is another Indian thriller film starring Akshay Kumar, Tapsee Pannu, Rana Daggubatti and Anupam Kher. The film runs on the leadership of Feroz Ali Khan who has a team working towards the betterment of the state after the Mumbai attacks and are trying to hamper further attacks on India.

4. Tiger Zinda Hai

Tiger, played by Salman Khan is the Indian RAW detective who falls in love with Katrina Kaif who is a Pakistani ISI agent. This film is the sequel of the very famous action thriller film Ek Tha Tiger. The film covers the event when Abu Usman, the terrorist in the film sets up his base in a city hospital and has Indian and Pakistani hostages who are all nurses. It showcases how Salman Khan and Katrina release these hostages safely.

5. Agent Vinod

Agent Vinod is an Indian spy film starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan and is directed by Sriram Raghavan. The film is based in the Dasht-e-Maadar desert in Afganistan where at the base camp, Col. Huzefa thinks that Saif Ali Khan is a RAW agent and captures him for the same.

6. Madras Café

More than a drama film, Madras Café is a political action film set in the 90s. The film showcases how the Indian Army officials from RAW operate from Jaffna soon after the Indian peace-keeping force during the Indian intervention in the Sri Lankan Civil War. This happened during the assassination of our former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
