Choreographers who have risen to fame from reality shows

There are many talented dancers who have converted their passion into their profession. Every year, we see hidden talent emerge from different dance reality shows. Many of them begin with participating and winning reality shows and rise up to judging young talent on similar platforms. Today, they have become renowned choreographers in Bollywood. Here’s a sneak peek into their journey to fame. 

1. Dharmesh Yelande

Dharmesh Yelande has always been an exceptional dancer. He bagged the runners-up trophy in DD National’s Airtel Krazzy Kiya Re and became the winner of Sony TV’s Boogie Woogie in 2008. However, Dharmesh became a household name only after he appeared on Zee TV’s Dance India Dance Season 2. He was then spotted by Farah Khan who asked him to choreograph the title song of her movie, Tees Maar Khan. Dharmesh’s journey has been greatly inspired by ace choreographer Remo D’Souza. 2. Salman Yusuff Khan

Mohammad Ghause, popularly known as Salman Yusuff Khan, is another great find of dance reality shows. He emerged as the winner of Dance India Dance Season 1 in 2009. That victory got him noticed in Bollywood, and thereafter he performed in song videos of movies like Wanted, Rakta Charitra and Sukoon. He made his acting debut with the movie ABCD: Anybody Can Dance. Salman has also participated in three seasons of the celebrity dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa

3. Shakti Mohan

Shakti Mohan is a trained contemporary artiste. In 2010, she became the winner of Dance India Dance Season 2. Since then, she has produced various dance-themed calendars and worked on international dance projects. She also owns a YouTube channel where she puts up her dance instruction videos. Shakti has appeared in song videos of many movies including Tees Maar Khan and Rowdy Rathore. She choreographed her first Bollywood song for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Padmaavat

4. Sneha Kapoor

Popularly known as ‘The Indian Salsa Princess’, Sneha Kapoor is a gifted dancer. She has represented India in various dance championships. In 2007, Sneha became the winner of the Australian Salsa Classic and European Salsa Masters. She even broke a Guinness World Record for the ‘most number of swing dance flips in a minute’. Sneha was a finalist in India’s Got Talent Season 1 and she has been associated with many dance reality shows as a participant and a trainer. 5. Tushar Kalia

Tushar Kalia has trained in Mayurbhanj Chhau dance, Kalaripayattu and contemporary dance forms for over twelve years. He participated in the sixth and seventh seasons of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa where his dancing skills were appreciated by everyone. In 2016, Tushar got his big Bollywood break as a choreographer in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Since then, he has been associated with many big-budget movies and has become a popular name in Bollywood
