Celebs who pause for a cause

Spending money on yourself when you’re making loads of it is nothing new, but it certainly warrants a mention when celebs who have money, fame, and even power to make a difference, work towards improving the lives of others. It is nice to see celebs who realize their social responsibility and work for the betterment of the common man and environment. Here are some celebs that have worked for a cause and still continue to do so. 
 

1. Amitabh Bachchan

    In 2002, when the cases of polio peaked, Amitabh Bachchan and his powerful voice were chosen in the hopes of making an impact. He was made the brand ambassador of the Polio Eradication Campaign. The efforts worked and WHO certified India Polio free in 2014. In 2017, the actor was the goodwill ambassador for Hepatitis. In an interview, he said, “I am absolutely committed to the cause of Hepatitis. As a person living with Hepatitis-B, I know the pain and suffering that Hepatitis causes. No one should ever suffer from viral Hepatitis"

2. Dia Mirza

Dia Mirza is one of those celebs who has always raised her voice and worked towards the conservation of environment and wildlife and due to this, she was selected to be the UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India. She will work along with the UN to further spread awareness about climate change, wildlife protection, clean air, and clean oceans.

3. John Abraham

John Abraham has been supporting the cause of PETA for a long time now and has always been vocal about his love for animals. In 2013, the actor wrote a letter to the Minister for Environment and Forests, asking for a ban on the use of animals in circuses in India. He has also been associated with Habitat for Humanity and Save Our Tigers.

4. Deepika Padukone

   After having fought depression herself, Deepika set up The Live Laugh Love Foundation which works towards reducing stigma surrounding the issue of mental health and spreading awareness about it. The foundation has also launched many campaigns like More Than Just Sad, You Are Not Alone and Dobaara Poocho.

5. Akshay Kumar

The Home Ministry of India and Akshay Kumar recently joined hands to develop a web portal and an app called Bharat Ke Veer. People can use this app to donate and contribute to the families of the Central Armed Police Force and Central Para Military Forces. He has even started a martial arts school in Mumbai for women. The school gives women self-defense training for free and has trained more than 4000 women till now.

6. Nana Patekar

Nana Patekar is one of the most humble celebs in Bollywood. He has worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of people in need. For the past 30 years, he has donated almost 90% of his income to charity. He has distributed Rs. 15,000 each to the widows of the farmers that committed suicide during the drought in Maharashtra. Along with a co-actor, he has collected almost Rs. 22 crores for the welfare of farmers.

7. Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan has worked for various social issues over the years but his show Satyamev Jayate is what he is most known for. In the two seasons of the show, he highlighted various social issues like mental health, dowry, Jan LokPal Bill, and many other issues.
