On 8th August 2021, the journey that started as one of the first DTH providers in India, completed 15 years. In these 15 years, we created many milestones, connected with every nook and corner of India and built a family of our customers. And the most precious thing that remained consistent throughout the #15YearsConstant journey of ours is the loyalty of our customers.
Let us look back at the glorious journey of evolution that our customers have traced with us-
Tata Sky Ltd. announced Tata Sky, India’s world-class DTH service provider with the best cable channels, new innovative programming and interactive services.
In 2006, Tata Sky satellite television service was launched in 300 Indian cities with the idea to give the customers Choice, Convenience and Control of television viewing. Tata Sky introduced new-age interactive services.14 interactive services were launched, namely, Active Fun Learn, Active English, Active Vedic Maths, Actve Darshan, Active Music, Active Cooking, Active Smart Games, Active Javed Akhtar, Active Fitness, Active Smart Manager.
Tata Sky+ was launched with a new-age service that used the breakthrough Personal Video Recorder technology, for the first time in the Indian subcontinent. It provides in-built functionality that offers viewers the power to plan and control his/her TV viewing experience by Recording, Pausing & Rewinding Live TV.
In the year 2013, the television viewing experience of customers was further amplified by introducing the Tata Sky Mobile App. It allowed the subscribers to use the app as a remote control without requiring a dongle as was traditionally done. In the same year, “Everywhere TV” was launched, using which, subscribers were able to watch and control their television viewing experience on the move. The customers could leverage the Catch-up TV option, watch videos through the Video-On-Demand (VoD) option and even listen to music with the Active Music service of Tata Sky.
Tata Sky began this year with the launch of its 4K set-top box (STB) in India, with the capability of delivering Ultra High Definition picture quality and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound. 4K at 8.3 Megapixels (3840x2160) enhanced the current HD standard and brought greater clarity and more vivid colours on the screen for viewers. In the same year, the company launched a ‘Daily Recharge’ voucher starting at ₹8/- that allowed subscribers to pay only for the days they watched television. We also introduced India’s first-ever interactive dance service on a DTH platform that enabled the subscribers to learn dance forms from Madhuri Dixit in the comfort of their homes.
Tata Sky introduced ‘Repeats’ in India with Star Plus and Zee that allowed subscribers to catch up with missed episodes of their favourite shows the next day.
In the cluster of interactive services, Tata Sky introduced Tata Sky Theatre, a 24-hour ad-free service that brought to its subscribers acclaimed plays and performances from the finest theatre groups on television. It launched over 100+ plays from across genres – Musicals, period drama, social satire, romantic comedy, crime drama, etc. in a cinematic format to the comfort of your home.
Tata Sky crossed yet another milestone in 2019 by launching Tata Sky Binge, a platform that brings digital content from multiple apps onto your TV. Tata Sky Binge is accessible through the Amazon FireTV Stick – Tata Sky Edition, an exclusive & unique offering that allows subscribers to stream digital content from across a diverse mix of apps through a single platform and single subscription fee.
Since the inception till date, Tata Sky has aimed to provide its customers with an experience that goes beyond DTH and we can proudly say that Tata Sky has been successful in their endeavour. Throughout the years, what remained constant is the love and support of customers, which encouraged the firm to grow leaps and bounds.
