4. Armageddon (1998)

It takes a lot to stand out among the sea of disaster movies that have explored almost all the possible ways Earth could meet its end and Armageddon achieves this by not having a too unique a disaster or with a too good a script, it does so by bringing together a lot of hard-hitting actors together and letting them to do what each of them does best. Oh and don’t forget the whole idea of hiring an oil-well drilling crew to drill holes in an asteroid.

7. Snatch

There’s just something about this Jason Statham and Brad Pitt starrer that gets you hooked to it the moment you start watching it. Maybe it’s the brutal Britishness of the characters in the movies, maybe it’s the conniving script, maybe it’s the dark-yet-comedic tone of the movie, or maybe all of it that works in its favour.

Gladiator was a project of enormous scale and it definitely shows. To capture an era that is known as much for its opulence as it is known for its practice of slavery, and do it so well that you win an Oscar for it, now that is filmmaking at its best!
