When it comes to choreography, the South Indian film industry is probably the best. South Indian choreographers are innovative and imaginative in their approach to dancing. They make the film stars perform steps that are otherwise thought impossible for film stars.

Prem Rakshith

Prem Rakshith is one of the top choreographers in Tollywood with four Filmfare Awards for Best Choreography under his belt. He rose to fame after choreographing two dances in S.S. Rajamouli’s blockbuster film Yamadonga (2007). Since then, he is held on to his position as the best dance choreographer in Tollywood. Prem Rakshith’s success streak continued with films like Ready (2008), Magadheera (2009), Simha (2010), Shakti (2012), Bahubali: The Beginning (2015), Bahubali: The Conclusion (2017), Rangasthalam (2018) and many more. Shobi Paulraj

Shobi Paulraj is one of Tollywood's top choreographers and the founder of IBO Dance Studio. He has worked with several acclaimed South Indian movie stars such as Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Pawan Kalyan and many more. One of the top choreographers in Tollywood, Paulraj has choreographed for films like Vasool Raja MBBS (2004), Chatrapathi (2005), Bommarillu (2006), Hero (2008), Ride (2009), Ragada (2010), Lingaa (2014), Theri (2016), 2.0 (2017) and many more. Shobi Paulraj has also choreographed for the Bollywood film Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014) starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha.

Dinesh Kumar

Dinesh Kumar is one of Tollywood’s top choreographers with a Filmfare Award for Best Choreography. He shot to fame in a short span in the film industry with his genuine talent and raw energy. Dinesh Kumar made his debut as a choreographer in the film Manadhai Thirudivittai (2001). Since then, he has choreographed numerous films including Anbe Sivam (2003), Ghajini (2005), Pokkiri (2007), Easan (2010), Enthiran (2010), Thalaivaa (2013), Bairavaa (2017), Master (2020), etc. He has even choreographed for the Bollywood film Sui Dhaaga (2018). Dinesh Kumar won the National Film Award for his breathtaking choreography in the film Aadukalam (2011). He is also known to make special appearances in the dances he choreographs. One of the top choreographers in Tollywood, Dinesh Kumar made his acting debut in the film Oru Kuppai Kathai (2018).

Mugur Sundar

The famous Mugur Sundar is one of the top choreographers in Tollywood. He has choreographed for almost all leading actors for around 100 songs in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Bengali languages. One of Tollywood’s top choreographers, Mugur Sundar was the first recipient of a National Award for choreography in the Indian film industry. He has been an active part of the South Indian film industry since the early 1980s with Aarada Gaaya (1980) as his earliest credited work. Apart from being a choreographer, Mugur Sundar directed his first film Manasella Neene (2002) and played the lead role in the film Pa. Ra. Palanisamy (2010). He was also one of the judges for the famous dance show AATA 4.

Jani Master

One of Tollywood’s top choreographers, Jani Master, started his career as a dancer in ETV’s The Ultimate Dance Show. He began choreographing for films with the Telugu film Drona (2009). Initially, Ram Charan hired him as a choreographer for all his films. Slowly and gradually, he started working with other leading actors such as Allu Arjun, Pawan Kalyan, N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and many more. Jani Master assisted the famous Prabhu Deva in the song ‘Rowdy Baby’ from Maari 2 (2018), which brought him huge acclaim. Not only is he one of the top choreographers in Tollywood, but Jani Master has also choreographed several Bollywood films starting with Agyaat (2009), Jai Ho (2014) and Radhe (2021). He also received praise for his choreography in the song ‘Butta Bomma’ from the film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020). Its signature step was recreated by various well-known celebrities on their social media handles.

Sekhar Master

Before becoming famous as one of Tollywood’s top choreographers, Sekhar Master worked as a background dancer and assistant choreographer. The award-winning choreographer has choreographed several films across Telugu, Kannada and Bollywood cinema. As an independent choreographer, Sekhar Master choreographed for the film Shiva Manasulo Shruti (2012). After that, Allu Arjun appointed him as a choreographer for the film Julayi (2012) for which he won SIIMA Award for Best Choreographer. Since then, his popularity and fame continue to rise. In a short span of time, Sekhar Master has choreographed for many films including Bruce Lee: The Fighter (2015), Sarrainodu (2016), Paperboy (2018), Mr. Majnu (2019), Soorarai Pottru (2020) and many more.

Prabhu Deva

Without a doubt, Prabhu Deva is the best dance choreographer in Tollywood. Not only in Tollywood, but he has also spread his magic in Bollywood. Rightly called the Indian Michael Jackson, he is regarded for designing a wide range of dance styles in the Indian film industry. Padma Shri awardee Prabhu Deva is not only a great dancer but is also a director and an actor.  He is trained in the Indian classical dance form Bharatnatyam as well as Western styles. Prabhu Deva started his career as a choreographer with Kamal Haasan’s Vetri Vizha (1989). Since then, he has choreographed for more than 100 films. One of the top choreographers in Tollywood, Prabhu Deva has been a mentor to several film stars as well.
