4 underrated theatre actors you’d love to watch on stage!

Theatre is an art form, greatest of all. And, theatre actors are a different league altogether. After all, performing in front of a live audience, conveying emotions and improvising on the spot needs a lot of dedication. This World Theatre Day, let’s take a look at few theatre actors who left a mark in Bollywood with their fine acting skills but are highly underappreciated.
 

1. Saurabh Shukla

Saurabh Shukla began his theatre career in 1986 with plays such as A View From The Bridge, Look Back In Anger, Ghashiram Kotwal And Havyadan. But one of his most memorable role remains his portrayal of Kallu Mama in the cult classic, Satya.

2. Neeraj Kabi

Neeraj Kabi began his theatre career in 1998 in Mumbai and has never looked back since. He’s worked alongside some of the biggest global names in the theatre industry. He’s known for his methodical techniques which have evolved from his own personal discoveries and experiments.  However, you know him best as Prof Wadia in Hichki opposite Rani Mukherji and Sadullah Khan in Laal Kaptaan.

3. Benjamin Gilani

An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Benjamin Gilani founded a theatre company called Motleys Productions along with Tom Alter and Naseeruddin Shah in 1977. In an illustrious career spanning over four decades, he’s worked in several plays, films and TV series. His most memorable role has been his portrayal of Jawaharlal Nehru in the 1983 film, Sardar.

4. Lillette Dubey

You know Lillette Dubey from her roles in Monsoon Wedding and Kal Ho Na Ho. But did you know she’s acclaimed theatre director? Her play Dance Like A Man, is the longest-running Indian play in English having completed around 497 shows till date.
