Dancer to Director – The journey of Prabhu Deva

Born on 3rd April 1973, Prabhu Deva is an amazing choreographer, a super producer, a brilliant director, and a well-known actor. Prabhu Deva has worked in a lot of films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada languages. He has designed a wide range of dancing styles and has also achieved various National awards for the same. For all the time he has been dancing, he has inspired a lot of people around the world and is also known as Indian Michael Jackson. Read on to know more about his journey

1. His father, Mugur Sundar, being a very famous choreographer, taught Prabhu dance at a very young age. He learned Bharatanatyam and Western styles during his early days.

2. He was initially afraid to choreograph songs on his own. In one of the interviews, he said, “The directors were confident but I was not. Some days my father would leave me alone to choreograph a song. Those times I was forced to do it myself. I learnt a lot that way.”

3. The first song Prabhu choreographed was for Sivaji Productions’ Vetri Vizha starring Kamal Haasan. Little by little, he got the flow and started directing entire sequences of all the songs of a film in Telugu cinema

4. He then started getting offers for acting. But he was too scared to take that up initially. Adhigaari, Ezhai Jaadhi, Idhayam, Sooriyan, and Gentleman are a few songs in which he had danced first

5. He has acted in about 25 films, Kaadhalan being the 1st one of all.

6. He later decided on to take up direction as his next challenge. He considered directions as a task equivalent to writing an exam. The film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana was his directional debut. After that film, he has directed some of the most famous films in South as well as Bollywood
